Cargotec seeks new architecture for multi-machine control

Cargotec improves the efficiency of cargo flows by offering handling systems and related services for the loading and unloading of goods. Research and development has a significant place in the company’s processes. According to a manager of research & development in automation Pekka Yli-Paunu, by developing multi-machine control, it is possible to gain more advantage in comparison to competitors. Doing so, Cargotec can offer all more efficient solutions for cargo handling and logistics. He pinpoints, that Cargotec seeks to reach optimal state of automation in terms of the operation of multi-machine environment.

- We believe that as participants in MOTTI-project we can produce new thinking of architecture-building in multi-machine control. In that research area, researchers have started developing the control of automatic machines and manual machines separately. Now, our goal is to combine these, Yli-Paunu adds.

Yli-Paunu hopes that research results of MOTTI-project would strengthen Cargotec’s own research and development work. According to Yli-Paunu, it is clear that work in docklands will become more automatic in near future and that is why it is important for the company to be the leading innovator in this field.

He also points out that environmental factors are an important driving force in the company’s product development.

- By efficient co-operation of machines and devices, we can minimize costs of fuel and thus, emissions which is one of our goals.
