TIKOSU - Database centric development of machine control systems

MOTIVATION

While the complexity of the machine control systems has increased, overlapping work in creating and modifying design information is performed in disciplinary processes such as requirements elicitation and management, system and software design and implementation, safety analysis, electrical CAD and communication network configuration. To eliminate overlapping work and to ensure consistency of data, an idea to use Integrated Industrial Documentation and Analysis database (IIDAbase) was established at VTT. It is based on database oriented management of design, analysis and implementation information.

GENERIC GOAL

The goal of this research project is to find out how effectively and systematically it is possible with a data centric approach to integrate the development project processes starting from requirements elicitation up to development of the maintenance support provided by
the control system. The approach could in the best case be adapted in Finland broadly
enough to allow a uniform specification of development process artefacts with main focus on interface specification that will result in cost reduction in development, configuration and testing at machine manufactures and their sub-contractors.
